ACH Origination through online banking
UMB Bank is an active leader in the ACH community, building a foundation as one of the largest providers of ACH Services in the region. UMB continues to be recognized among the top 50 largest ACH originators in the United States by NACHA (National Automated Clearing House Association).
NACHA manages the development, administration and governance of the ACH Network. UMB ACH Services enable your company with safe, secure and efficient origination or receipt of money and data through the ACH network.
UMB Accepted SEC codes:
- PPD: Prearranged Payment and Deposit Entry
- CCD: Cash Concentration or Disbursement
- CTX: Corporate Trade Exchange
- TEL: Telephone-Initiated Entry (requires prior approval)
- WEB: Internet-Initiated Entries (requires prior approval)
- IAT: International ACH Transaction (requires prior approval)
- RCK: Re-Presented Check Entry
- POP: Point of Purchase Entry

UMB offers Same Day ACH functionality, which provides ACH originators with the option of sending same-day ACH transactions.
UMB cut-off time for same-day origination is 2 p.m. CT.
Customers can upload files through Premier Business Online Banking, direct file transmission or an HTTPS file upload link.
Balanced ACH Origination Files
UMB does not support balanced ACH origination files. Any customers submitting files through file transmission connections need to remove the balanced file transaction.
A conversion specialist reached out to you to assist you with making any file changes necessary as applicable.
Prefunding and Advanced Funding
If you were setup for Advanced funding at HTLF you were migrated to UMB’s prefund process. Currently, Advanced funding customers do not see funds debited until at least two days prior to the settlement date.
With Premier Business Online Banking, prefund customers see originated credit transactions debited from their account the day the file is received regardless of the effective date. Please keep this in mind when sending your payment file to UMB as a prefund/advanced funding customer.
Pass-thru ACH origination files
UMB does not support pass-thru ACH origination files. If you need to process a multi-batch file, or a file that is in an SEC code outside of CCD or PPD, a file transmission or HTTPS upload connection is required.
A conversion specialist reached out to you to assist you with this change.
Please note: this option will require payment file format changes.
For pass-thru ACH originators processing a single batch file that is either a PPD or CCD, you may utilize the “Pay from a File” functionality within the Premier Business Online Banking portal. No changes to your payment file will be needed to utilize this function.
Approvals
File Approval
UMB requires multifactor authentication at the time of entry for any users that have access to create payments.
Single Approvals
UMB’s standard is dual approval for all originated payments. Please review your users and add additional approvers as necessary prior to migration if applicable.
A secondary approver must be set up with online access to review and approve all originated ACH transaction files.
Please reach out to your Treasury Management Officer to request online approval access for qualified users or with any questions.
File Transmission Payment Approvals
UMB does not support payment approvals through email communications for ACH file transmission and HTTPS upload customers.
Approvers must be set up with online access to review and approve all originated ACH transaction files. If this applies to you a conversion specialist reached out to assist you with this change.
ACH File Confirm and HTTPS site
Customers can manage ACH file uploads and confirm ACH files through a single sign-on within Premier Business Online Banking.
