Check-free Bill Pay is available through UMB Online Banking. If you made at least one bill payment through your bill pay service within the last 24 months, information for most billers and your default funding account has moved to UMB, along with six months of Bill Pay history for converted billers.

Note: While most billers have carried over to UMB, you will need to recreate some billers after conversion, especially those that were set up to be paid electronically and do not include mailing addresses.

Access Bill Pay in UMB Online Banking

We recommend using a desktop device for your first-time login; you may receive an error message if you access Bill Pay through the UMB Mobile app first.

Upon your first login to online banking and Bill Pay:

  • You’ll be prompted to select which accounts to use.
  • Review your biller information, future-dated payments, and recurring payments and verify them against recent invoices:
    • Review the Biller Name, Biller Address and Biller Account Number
    • If any contact information is missing, you may need to re-add the biller to Bill Pay and reestablish those payments.
  • Verify your default funding account on the Bill Pay homepage.
  • Recreate billers, reestablish payments, settings or alerts, and re-enroll in preferred features (i.e., electronic billing) as needed.

Electronic bills (eBills)

If you scheduled a single payment before July 10, it will process normally. However, you do need to reestablish any recurring or additional payments and create any future payments in Bill Pay after conversion.

Review the UMB Digital Banking User Guide for more details on Bill Pay.

Commonly asked questions

You may need to update your contact information in your online banking profile before you can access Bill Pay. The UMB Bill Pay service also requires a U.S.-based address to be listed in your profile.

To update your contact information, go to My Profile under Settings. If you need assistance, please reach out to us through our support channels.

We recommend scheduling your bill payments to be made at least 5-7 business days prior to the actual payment due date on the bill. This allows enough time for the biller to receive the payment and credit it to your account.

  • Electronic payments are paid within 1-2 business days.
  • Paper checks are mailed and delivered within 5-7 business days.
  • For electronic payments, the amount will be debited from your account on the payment due date.
  • For check payments, the amount will be debited on the payment due date or when the biller cashes the check.
  • You can view scheduled and processed Bill Pay transactions in the Activity tab under Pay Bills.
  • After the payment is debited, your bill payment will display in your funding account transactions.

You can set up autopay to automatically schedule your payment when your new bill arrives. This is based on how you set your preferences when you added the biller to your list.

Note: Some billers will not allow you to set up autopay in BillPay if you have autopay turned on at their website.

Electronic or mail delivery depends on the biller’s terms and conditions. Some billers will stop sending paper bills after you sign up for eBills, and others will continue to send paper bills. Some billers may also continue to send paper bills for the first few months after you start receiving your bill online.

When you activate eBills for your biller, read the biller’s terms and conditions carefully when available.

Your biller determines the amount of time your bill detail is available—usually from four weeks to six months.

Holidays and weekends are not eligible for payment processing and will affect available dates when scheduling your payments. You’ll be prompted to select a valid payment date when creating the payment.

Most billers have carried over to UMB. However, billers paid electronically without a saved billing address did not carry over. We recommend you review each biller’s information and verify it against a recent invoice, especially the Biller Name, Biller Address and Biller Account Number. If the biller information is missing, you may need to add the biller to Bill Pay.

Your default funding account for your existing bill payments has carried over to UMB. We recommend that you verify your default funding account on the Bill Pay home page to ensure accuracy. Additionally, review any recurring payments to confirm they are set up with the correct funding account.

Note: Always double-check the funding account when you are making payments to make sure you are sending them from the intended account.

Your recurring and future-dated payments have carried over to Bill Pay unless the biller address is missing or unless there’s a payment scheduled for more than a year out. In these cases, you do need to re-enter this scheduled payment. Be sure to confirm all your recurring and future-dated payments to avoid any payment disruptions.

The multi-pay option is available in desktop UMB Online Banking but is not available in the UMB Mobile app. For more information, read about Multiple Payments in the UMB Digital Banking User Guide.

View your Bill Pay activity under Bill History to see both scheduled and processed payments. Additionally, debits from your account will appear in your funding account’s transaction history. Bill payments will display as: <Biller Name> – ONLINE PMT.

Bill payments can be scheduled up to one year in advance.

You can choose a rush payment to be delivered the next day or two days from the scheduled date.

If you have a bill that is close to the due date, you have the option to use the Rush Delivery link to select a guaranteed delivery option.

Fees will apply when making rush payments.

A check memo can be used to document additional information about the payment. Example: Adding “for school field trip” to note the reason for the payment.
